When your devotional is potluck...

The other day, a woman asked me what my devotional time looks like. I laughed and said, "It looks like potluck! ...Can I say that?!" I started thinking on how I feed on the Word right now...its not the two hours every morning or the three in the middle of the night.

Right now, I'm nourished by the water-stained notecard by my sink when I brush my teeth. The prayer verses tacked to the wall across the toilet. It's the time in intercession while doing laundry or the time worshipping quietly while in Hobby Lobby. It looks like holding my babies and singing Jesus Loves Me. It's an occasional feast of a good sermon while driving to pick up my girl from school. It's a longing look at the moon wondering when will He return for us. It's a prayer in the shower for my husband, or the president. It's a quiet moment on the couch, just being quiet. It's a middle of the night flip to Isaiah or Psalms. Right now, it's potluck.

Now, I'm not complaining. I grew up in a Southern Baptist church, and we love us some potluck. I have good memories of potluck. I like the unknown surprises on the table, the casseroles, the melted cheese, the dessert table. Potluck is a really good and fun meal. But when its a life-style... every day a potluck, sometimes you just crave a little routine of meal plan. Somebody, please just tell me what I need to make tomorrow and the next day, and I will happily eat it. (Yes, I'm thinking of you Kelly as I write that! : ) She's my favorite meal planner, by the way.)

Right now, I just need something more.  I need some consistency. Do you?

Whether you are a potluck girl, or a meal planner, or a cereal-for-dinner-again girl... just eat. Eat something Good. Get in the Word, and eat it up!

Come, all you who are thirsty,     come to the waters; and you who have no money,     come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk     without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread,     and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,     and you will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me;     listen, that you may live.

Isaiah 55

All that said, I'm starting this new Bible study on January 23rd! Just ordered my copy today. It's essentially a 5 week meal plan! A feast on the Bread of Life and the Living Water.

Lysa Terkeurst's "Finding I AM." It's about the I AM statements Jesus makes in John. It's a beautiful way to start being nourished in the Word (or to restart in the Word again). The women at Proverbs 31 are hosting this online study, and I'm amazed so far! They have it set up beautifully! And best part, the videos are free during this session! (Ha! "You who have no money, come, buy and eat!")

Would love for you to join me!

First, sign up for the online Bible study below here so you will get your weekly kick-off emails on Mondays, encouragement on Wednesday, and Lysa's videos from Israel on Fridays:

The next Proverbs 31 Online Bible study is on the book, "Finding I AM" by Lysa TerKeurst! Study starts January 23. Learn more and sign up here --> http://www.proverbs31.org/online-bible-studies/ #FindingIAM #P31OBS

Then make sure to order your copy! (Here's the cheapest place I've found it so far):

Also, if you don't get your copy in time, they have included the first week for free in their Companion Guide, available here:

Super impressive! This is truly a feast! Share it with a friend. I plan on meeting with a few women to chat about it. If that's not an option for you, they have great online small groups set up too.

I love you guys. And like I said before, I don't care how you eat, just eat something Good. : )
